Professional Qualification
SOA Associateship Examination Coverage
The educational pathway leading to the Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation includes preliminary exams, Validation by Educational Experience (VEE), e-learning modules and subsequent professional requirements.
The IFAA curriculum is closely aligned with the SOA associateship exam requirements.
| SOA Associateship Exam | Relevant Course(s) |
|---|---|
| Probability | FINA2220 |
| Financial Mathematics | FINA2200 |
| Statistics for Risk Modelling | FINA3290, FINA3295 |
| Fundamentals of Actuarial Mathematics | FINA3221, FINA3222 |
| Advanced Long-term Actuarial Mathematics | FINA4211 |
| Advanced Short-term Actuarial Mathematics | FINA4221 |
Many students complete multiple professional exams during their studies, making them highly competitive for positions in actuarial, insurance, pension, risk management and financial analytics.
Validation by Educational Experience (VEE)
In addition to exam requirements, the SOA requires candidates to satisfy the Validation by Educational Experience (VEE) requirements in specific subject areas. CUHK offers validated courses that enable students to fulfil these requirements during their studies:
| SOA VEE Area | Course(s) offered for Validation |
|---|---|
| Accounting and Finance | ACCT1111, FINA2010 |
| Economics | DOTE1030, DOTE1040 |
| Mathematical Statistics | FINA2230 |
This integrated curriculum allows students to complete both professional exam-related coursework and VEE requirements within a single degree programme.
